LEJA meeting

It's been a while since we've met together. Let's change that! Please join us  to reconnect and learn from each other about what's happening in the world of education justice at the local and state level. Hope you can join us!

Lowell Education Justice Alliance (LEJA) is a grassroots group of parents, educators, students, school staff, and concerned community members committed to building a stronger and better PUBLIC school system driven by community voices. We believe that policies and decisions are strongest when they are informed by those who are most impacted. Teachers, parents and students must have a critical role in creating the schools our communities deserve. At the core of this work is a belief that quality, equitable public schools are essential to a healthy society and so we will resist efforts to privatize our public schools. All students deserve to learn in an environment that is equitable, joyful, educational and inspiring.

We are committed to building a stronger and better public school system that is driven by community voices. Many of the individuals and groups involved came together to keep the cap on charter schools in Massachusetts. Following our success on ballot question 2 we continue to organize for public schools that serve the needs of all of our students, no matter where they live.

By engaging all communities across the Commonwealth and building power through unity, our parent, student and teacher driven coalition is committed to working with our elected and appointed officials and holding them accountable to the actual needs and desires of the communities served by Lowell Public Schools. The negative impacts of high stakes testing and the push to privatize our public education system are prime concerns of LEJA.
